Google Removing PageRank Score?
At WebmasterWorld forum, a hot debate about the possibility of Google removing the PageRank score from the Google Toolbar.
This is because of a few reasons:
- Toolbar PageRank numbers are always out of date…usually 3 months or more
- There are cases of 'buggy PR updates' that seriously misrepresent a sites or page's real PageRank.
- Matt Cutts (from Google) has frequently blogged that PageRank updates are a non-event around Google
- A flawed economy of massive link building and trading to increase a certain sites or page's PageRank.
Google is keeping an eye on this situation seriously despite the rants that go on and on in forum threads.
The discussion has been joined by Adam Lasnk from Google (according to Search Engine Roundtable) and he is looking for feedback and alternative info which Google may and could serve.
PageRank is an important signal and remains one of many effective measures of quality, but admittedly it's often viewed and used/abused in ways that run contrary to the interests of searchers and webmasters. Still, a lot of folks find the PR information useful; it provides a great incentive to try out our toolbar and explore its other features as well.
Given that many of you aren't so fond of PR info in the toolbar, I'd love to know what feature you would like to see.
Mandatory criteria:
- Would have to provide actionable info for webmasters
- Would need to be useful and interesting for the ~99.9% of users who aren't webmasters
A lot of webmasters and even search marketers forget that unlike Alexa, the Google Toolbar was not specifically for them.
May Google should make a special toolbar for Google Webmaster Tools user or maybe Google should leave suck tweaking up to Greasemonkey….
Well, lets just hope for the best ![]()
