Google
You may have hear it here and there, get links, get lots of links to your website. By getting links, it is the solution to your website problem. Well, what people are saying is not a myth according to my experience and I believe that they are true.
Getting a related backlink to your site will boost up the authority of your site in the eyes of search engines. Having related and relevant content with each other's site represents the legitimacy of your site to search engines that it is not just another spam blog. The whole idea about related backlinks is that as long as it is relevant, related and natural then it's all good.

The problem now is that more and more people are starting to get paid links with hope that their site will get a higher authoroity much faster and easier. The rule of thumb is that only natural links will stand out and anything unrelated or unnatural will be a bane. For years, Google has been keeping 'mums' about how their unique algorithm works and they sometimes take actions to those whore are getting paid to gain traffic.

Here's a video from Google which features Matt Cutts (Google's Spokesmen) telling webmasters that buying links are totally outside of Google's guidelines.

So will a few paid links get your site penalized. Well, it's a no but keep paid links to a minimal and focus on getting natural and relvant links.
