Places To Visit: Columbus, Ohio and Niagara Falls
Columbus, Ohio is the capital of the state of Ohio. It's a leader in many industries and serves as the corporate home of companies like Nationwide Insurance, Cardinal Health, Limited Brands (parent company for Victoria's Secret and Bath & Body Works) and Wendy's International. The economy and job outlook has been above average for a number of years. Columbus is known for the Columbus Zoo (and its director emeritus, Jack Hanna), COSI (the Center of Science and Industry) and a pretty spectacular fireworks show downtown around the 4th of July holiday (called Red, White & Boom). The Ohio State Fair is one of the country's largest…and major area festivals also include the Columbus Arts Festival, The Jazz & Ribs Fest and ComFest. And, of course, you can't mention Columbus, OH without mentioning THE Ohio State University and its football and basketball Buckeyes. It's not considered a cutting-edge city…but Columbus has plenty to offer and plenty to see when you visit.
Niagara Falls, which lies on the border between New York and Canada, is one of the most remarkable waterfalls in the country. It draws millions of visitors every year…and one-fifth of the world's fresh water supply passes over the Falls. It's been a popular tourist attraction for hundreds of years, but only in the last hundred years has the energy of the falls been harvested to generate electricity. In fact, the Falls currently provide 10% of the electricity for the entire state of New York (and that's just the part that doesn't get sent off to Canada). The Falls have been radically engineered in order to maximize the power generation and are actually "turned down" at night after the lights go out in order to generate even more electricity. If you decide to visit this area, be sure to learn all the relevant facts about Niagara Falls…including attraction scheduling, weather, accommodations, etc.
