Avoidance of Content Duplication In Your Website

Posted in Search Engine Optimization on Aug 15, 2008

Do not make the mistake of having the same content of your home page for different URLs. This can be damaging and lead to loss in link value and affect your website's ranking. Even though you may different content on the other pages, if your homepage is similar it will lead to duplication of content.

If you notice that several links which are outside the website pointing towards both the URLs then use a 301 re-write rule to redirect all the pages to a single url. To include the 301 re-write rule open a notepad, name the file and save it as .htaccess and then place this code in the htaccess files. If the .htaccess files have existing code lines in it, then jump a line and add the code. Save the .htaccess file and upload it to your server's root folder.
