The Definition Of Duplicate Content And How Do Search Engines Deal With It

Posted in Search Engine Optimization on Sep 10, 2008

When content is available in more than one URL which seems similar at different locations by the search engines it is known as duplicate content. Sometimes duplication could mean the pages are filtered by search engines and there is no idea as to which page description would be shown as the result page.

It also could mean that some sites and pages are not indexed at all or the search engine stops indexing all the pages of the site if it finds several copies of the same pages having different URLs. The search engines stop searching the duplicate content as they do not want to display the same pages in the results page and they do not want to waste their time indexing those pages that have similar content.
