Comparing Search Results • 04.23.10
Since different search engines weigh different parts of their algorithms differently, they can all have similar relevancy while having significantly different search results.
Some people are quick to ask how their sites are being penalized in one search engine because they rank well in others. While many sites do get penalized for aggressive spamming techniques, most sites that do not rank well usually just fail to satisfy the specific ranking algorithm for that specific engine in question.

Supplemental Results Index • 04.17.10
When the supplemental index was first launched Google labeled the supplemental results. SEOs came up with hacks for figuring out how many supplemental results different websites had, and after they got popular Google disabled them and removed the supplemental results label.
Google has an auxiliary index where it stores some documents it may not trust enough to include in its regular index. Supplemental search results are used to provide search results when not enough regular search results are available. Why do sites get put in the supplemental results?

Is Your Google Ranking Dependent On Your CTR? • 04.12.10
Google uses the click parameter to rate the ranking of the ads. For normal search results also the same procedure applies where the top ten results have been produced due to the clicks. A good amount of visitors click on the 1st result and a little less click on the second and this continues with subsequently lesser clicks on each result in the descending order.

Date Based Filters, Cache Date & Site Indexing Growth • 04.06.10
Many analytics programs show what pages are crawled frequently by search engines. If they crawl some parts of your site frequently it is safe to say they trust that part of your site significantly because they keep spending bandwidth to visit it frequently.
Google's advanced search page allows you to search for pages that are recently indexed. These search filters can be used to:
- Find how well your site is getting indexed
- Look for issues in new pages from your site that are getting indexed by Google
- Find how how rapidly a story is spreading

How much is a Google top ranking worth? • 03.31.10

But how much exactly is a top ranking on Google worth? What can a top ranking on Google do for your business?
Paid search results are worth $37.7 million per day
Google published its earnings last month. Google-owned sites (i.e. mainly the search results) generated revenues of $3.40 billion in the first quarter of 2008 (that's about $37.7 million per day).
Advertisers wouldn't pay Google so much money if they didn't profit from it. The dollar amount indicates how much it is worth to be listed on Google's first result page. And these numbers only represent the value of the paid search results.
Listings in the natural search results are worth even more (more…)

Overcoming Google's Filter for New Websites • 03.27.10
Have you noticed that it is easer to get ranked higher on Google with older websites than it is with new websites? Have you ever wondered why is this so and what does it take for you to do to get a high ranking if you have a new website?
Why is it easier to get high rankings with older websites?
Spammers oftenly use brand new domain names to make a quick profit. Spammers often buy hundreds of domains at once and fill them with crap or scraper content and hoping to make a profit with the advertisements that appears on the sites (usually spammers use AdSense to put ads on these kind of sites). Black-hat webmasters also sometimes use new domains to test for new search engines exploit (mainly on spamming techniques)
It is obviously difficult for Google to know which sites (or domains) can be trusted and this is why Google had invented a filter system which down-ranks new websites until Google decides they can be trusted.

Google Hijacking • 06.09.08
Sometimes people can hijack the search results of other webmasters. This is rather uncommon in most fields, but if you get into high-margin areas, such as prescription drugs, it is much more common.
In May of 2005, Google actually had one of their sites hijacked. Notice below how the Google AdSense site is showing up as being part of the all-in-one-business.com domain.
