Rewriting an article is an ability that many writers think they have, but very few in reality, do. The need for rewriting an article could encompass many reasons, and the methodology used to attack the task will in the main depend on the motives and the requisite outcome, but each will have their very own pros and cons, so let's have a look.

The first reason we will look at is the case of article directory submissions. The preparation of a rewritten adaptation of a previously commissioned article in order to obtain two articles instead of one, allows for one version to be placed on a website, for example, and the rewritten one could be submitted to the various article directories. The reasons for doing this are to offshoot the disadvantages of competing with other people utilising the exact same content. On article directories, although gaining valuable backlinks through the resource box, one is actually challenging for keywords against all the other websites that are using the very same article. One could then be faced with the problem of duplicate content and all that particular scenario entails.

When you are building your website and want to make sure that you maximize your search engine optimization (SEO) you can make a series of small changes to it that are easy and quick. Some directories require reciprocal links to be listed in them. I do not recommend swapping links with most of these types of directories. Directories are intended to list sites. Sites are not intended to list directories. If you like something, then feel free to link to it, if not, then don't. Some vertical niche directories are of high enough quality to deserve links, but most are not.

Link popularity is a currency, and if you are lacking money (as I was when I started on the web), you may need to reciprocate a few links off the start, but if you get too aggressive with link trades, you will be digging yourself a hole by making your link profile unnatural, and you can waste many hours of time.

The exceptions to this rule are that I am usually willing to reciprocate links with the following directories:

• Extremely powerful sites that I do not believe are going to get penalized. Generally this type of site still should be on the same topic as your site.
• Directories that are well-focused and are defined as an industry hub in my topic. The SEO Consultants Directory, for example, would not be a bad directory for SEO sites to link to.

Oftentimes a site will fit many different categories. When choosing a category to submit to in a directory, I look at a few different ideas.

• Is my site likely to be accepted if I submit to this category? I tend to be more conservative when submitting to a free directory than if I am submitting to a paid directory.
• Are there reasons that this organization, or other sites outside of this organization, are going to place extra emphasis on (or otherwise link into) this category?
• How many links are listed in this category?
• Where does this category fit in the directory structure?
• How related is my site to the sites listed in this category?

Over time popular bloggers build up hundreds or thousands of subscribers. These subscribers are people interested in the field or topics that blogger writes about. Each time those bloggers write a new post those readers get notified of the new content in their RSS readers.

• everytime you had an idea to share, that 5,000 people who trust your opinions see it.
• most of those 5,000 also write blogs in your field or related fields.
• some of those bloggers frequently mention your site
• some of those bloggers also have thousands of subscribers.

Blogs are all about spreading ideas (via in content links) and accumulating attention. Where people go search engines follow. If many people link to your blog posts that also boosts your search engine rankings for the other parts of your site.

If you write a frequently updated blog the media is more likely to believe you are a topical expert than if you are just a merchant selling goods in your industry.

Friendly Links
One of the nice things about being a well known blogger and knowing a lot of bloggers well is that no matter what you are promoting some of your friends have probably covered the topic or similar topics in the past. Asking friends for links from related posts is a good way to get a couple extra links if you need them.

Leading vs Following
Some of the most successful entrepreneurs not only get many links from within their community, but they also lead new ideas (instead of just following competitors) to create strategic content and get links from outside their traditional communities.

Easy Community Link Ideas
I am not suggesting that everyone should go around spamming all of these sites, but it does not take a lot of effort to put up a blog on a community site, write a half dozen decent posts, and tag them with popular relevant tags to drive link equity from the community hub sites to your blog on their site and on through to your personal websites.

• Fast Company recently started hosting member blogs on their beta site
• Intuit offers their JumpUp community
• and of course older traditional community blog hosting sites like WordPress.com also work.

Getting other websites to link to you is one of the best search engine optimization method to help your site rank higher in search engines. Your site will be more popular in the eyes of search engines such as Google if more websites link to you. This in turn, will result your site to be ranked higher in search engines and this also means that you will have a higher relevancy rank than any other website that has less incoming links that you do.

If you are a webmaster who frequently make reciprocal link exchanges with many websites, you will definitely want to consider on having a software that will verify whether your link exchange partner maintains your sites link.There are many high-end softwares that has this feature but unfortunately, they are all either a commercial software or an outdated software that may contain malicious code.

Some of you may already know this but for those who don't, here are the facts.

- According to this report, as many as 60 directories were penalized by Google
- The directories had dropped in rank
- Google are now specifically targeting paid link directories (as it is against Google's Quality Guidelines)
- Competitors may have helped Google by making a report by a paid link reporting form

Big and well known web directories such as Aviva, Alive, Big Web Links, Ewebpages, Directory Dump, Elegant Directory, and Biz-Dir are heavily affected and hundreds of directory pages have been removed from Google's index.
