Directory Traffic

Directories rarely provide much direct traffic. The bulk of the value of a directory listing is in how search engines evaluate the links. Occasionally, you will find a general directory that does provide good traffic - that is the exception more than the rule.

Niche directories tend to drive decent traffic. Any site that ranks well in related search results may be a good place to get a link, because ranking for relevant search queries means they stand a good chance of being a well-trusted link source and sending you direct visitors.

Automated Content Creation - BAD!

Use of, or improper use of, any of the following tools can drastically increase the chances your site will be removed from search indexes. If you are new to the web and are running a limited number of websites, it is recommended that you avoid using these types of tools-especially on any site that is a main source of income.

Most automated content creation tools create content that reads like rubbish. Some tools such as Traffic Equalizer scrape search results and publish the results as web pages on your site.

RSS Equalizer can be used to create pages from related RSS feeds. Some people mix this data to create well-themed and useful web pages. In some regions the web pages created by RSS Equalizer and Traffic Equalizer may be illegal due to copyright laws.

ArticleBot is a tool that creates many semantically sound articles from a single article.

I have not yet used any of the automated content creation tools, but some of my friends have stated positive things about them. They are usually used on temporary websites.

Why is Blogging Such an Effective SEO Strategy?

Over time popular bloggers build up hundreds or thousands of subscribers. These subscribers are people interested in the field or topics that blogger writes about. Each time those bloggers write a new post those readers get notified of the new content in their RSS readers.

Imagine that…

  • everytime you had an idea to share, that 5,000 people who trust your opinions see it.
  • most of those 5,000 also write blogs in your field or related fields.
  • some of those bloggers frequently mention your site
  • some of those bloggers also have thousands of subscribers.

Blogs are all about spreading ideas (via in content links) and accumulating attention. Where people go search engines follow. If many people link to your blog posts that also boosts your search engine rankings for the other parts of your site.

If you write a frequently updated blog the media is more likely to believe you are a topical expert than if you are just a merchant selling goods in your industry.

Quality Content = Good SEO!

Lots of people will tell you to create lots of quality content without ever giving a legitimate definition of what quality content is. The web is a big social network, and the trick is to get your messages to spread further and faster than your competitors. Usually, creating more pages does not do this as well as creating a
better idea.

The Web was designed to save people time or give away useful information. The closer you can align a portion of your business model or website with those concepts, the better chance you have at achieving extreme success.

While many SEOs hold back their secrets so they can profit from them, I give this e-book free to charities and post most of what I learn to my blog. I not only help people, but my syndicated network grows. I have been found by prospective customers from word-of-mouth in forums I have never heard of. One day I got a thank you e-mail from a person from a religious forum and about ten minutes later got a thank you from a person from a pornography forum.

Overcoming Google's Filter for New Websites

Have you noticed that it is easer to get ranked higher on Google with older websites than it is with new websites? Have you ever wondered why is this so and what does it take for you to do to get a high ranking if you have a new website?

Why is it easier to get high rankings with older websites?
Spammers oftenly use brand new domain names to make a quick profit. Spammers often buy hundreds of domains at once and fill them with crap or scraper content and hoping to make a profit with the advertisements that appears on the sites (usually spammers use AdSense to put ads on these kind of sites). Black-hat webmasters also sometimes use new domains to test for new search engines exploit (mainly on spamming techniques)

It is obviously difficult for Google to know which sites (or domains) can be trusted and this is why Google had invented a filter system which down-ranks new websites until Google decides they can be trusted.

BlogRush - Phase 2

BlogRush Phase 2

Recently, I joined the BlogRush Network. Within days of using it, the BlogRush network announced that it will begin to work on moving to Phase 2. Phased 2 is just one of many major phases to come within the first 6 months to come.

I've used BlogRush for a few weeks now and so far I've gotten a fair amount of referrals or traffic from them. BlogRush only allows blogs in Englis to jopin the network, but I've seen a few chinese language blogs using BlogRush. Fortunately, in Phase 2, BlogRush will begin to detect and delete non-english blogs and spam blogs that are contaminating the network.

Here are a few 'Phase 2′ sneak peaks.

Be Weary of Paid Links - Google Hates It!

Google
You may have hear it here and there, get links, get lots of links to your website. By getting links, it is the solution to your website problem. Well, what people are saying is not a myth according to my experience and I believe that they are true.
Getting a related backlink to your site will boost up the authority of your site in the eyes of search engines. Having related and relevant content with each other's site represents the legitimacy of your site to search engines that it is not just another spam blog. The whole idea about related backlinks is that as long as it is relevant, related and natural then it's all good.

Meta Description Strategies from Google

A recent post at the Google Webmaster Central Blog by Raj Krishnan is definitely getting a lot of webmasters attention.

Google are recommending sites to write a good Meta Description for a higher click-through-rate (CTR). Usually for sites that don't have a meta description Google selects snippets by using a number of different strategies for the benefit of the webmasters.

BlogRush Has Some New Plans

Recently a new site called BlogRush was launched and I decided to try 'em out. Everything is working pretty great. I've got several traffic from the BlogRush widget and I'm quite happy :)

After a few days signing up with BlogRush, they sent a newsletter about their new changes.

The statistics page at BlogRush is currently disabled…temporarily. Here are the changes that BlogRush will implement:

  • 100% manual blog review — Might be a little unrealistic but BlogRush says this will keep spam sites from messing and poisoning the BlogRush network.
  • More categories — This is to improve relevancy of links in the widget.
  • Improved reporting — Low traffic members may get more bonus credits.
  • Improved network distribution — balance between building and using credit points.
